Don Julio’s 1942 Tequila Gift Box

DEBOSSING

Structure & Materials

The carton was produced using 28pt SBS C1S and engineered with an auto-lock bottom and tuck-top closure. This structure delivers exceptional strength and stability while supporting efficient assembly.

Printing & Cold Foil

To achieve a refined metallic aesthetic, cold foil was applied to the top half of the carton, then overprinted with a custom gold PMS color and finished with spot gloss. This layered approach created a foil effect that perfectly aligns with Don Julio’s signature branding. The bottom half of the carton was printed in Don Julio’s iconic brown using four-color process and finished with a dull varnish, delivering richness, contrast, and depth.

Debossing

Across the top half of the carton, a debossed groove pattern was incorporated to add visual and tactile interest. Extending across the box folds, the deboss required meticulous attention to detail and precise registration. Accentuated by the cold foil and spot gloss, the detail reinforces the carton’s luxurious look and feel.

Result

The finished package delivers a sophisticated yet festive, gift-worthy presentation that commands attention at retail while staying true to Don Julio’s iconic brand identity.

COLD FOIL

Structure & Materials

To deliver the strength and durability needed to support the bottle’s weight, we engineered a folding carton from 28pt SBS, featuring a reinforced auto-lock bottom structure and partitioned dust flaps to hold the bottle securely in place. A circle window cut-out allowed the elegant bottle design to remain visible, reinforcing shelf appeal and brand recognition.

Printing & Finishing

To complement the gold foil accents on the bottle’s label, we used cold foil printing to add a metallic sheen to key design elements on the box. The box was printed using four-color process plus a custom gold spot color over the foil to perfectly match the gold foil on the label. The box was finished with an overall matte varnish, providing a sophisticated look and feel.

Conclusion

The final result was a cohesive, eye-catching promotional package that elevated Don Julio’s brand while ensuring product protection and retail impact.

Rigid Box

A rigid box serves as the primary structural element for this package, constructed from 60pt chipboard with both an outer wrap and inner liner.

  • Inner Liner: printed with 2 PMS colors and coated with an overall soft-touch coating.
  • Outer Wrap: printed with 4-color process plus 2 PMS colors and coated with an overall soft-touch coating.
  • Enhancements: Cold foil accents add depth and a rich metallic sheen, underscoring the exclusivity of the King Henry II release.

Paperboard Insert

Inside the rigid box rests a three-layer 18pt SBS insert, each layer precisely cutout revealing the layer beneath, creating a sense of depth and dimension. Printed with 3 PMS colors, cold foil, and an overall soft-touch coating, the insert maintains the cohesive aesthetic of the full package. A lift tab adds functionality and ensures a seamless unboxing experience. Achieving perfect registration across all layers required meticulous gluing and alignment, demonstrating Wynalda Packaging’s attention to detail and manufacturing precision.

Paperboard Slipcase

The outer slipcase was designed to make an immediate impression. Crafted from 18pt SBS, it features a rolled edge bottom and tuck top with a tongue lock for secure closure. Cut-outs on the front and back of the slipcase add another layer to the dimensional reveal.

In tandem with the rest of the package, the slipcase features gold cold foil, 2 custom PMS colors, and an overall soft-touch coating. For the final touch, blind embossing adds a tactile, elegant finish that communicates luxury from the first glance.

The Result

The final package stands as a testament to collaboration, precision, and design excellence. Through the combination of thoughtful structure, rich materials, and luxurious finishes, Wynalda Packaging helped ADM and Goose Island transform a limited-edition beer into an unforgettable brand experience.

THERMOFORMED TRAYS

Structure & Material

We designed folding cartons for each brand, both featuring an auto-lock bottom and double tuck closure, with the outer tuck using a gusset structure and tongue lock for sturdier corners and secure sealing. Constructed from 28pt SBS, the carton delivered the strength necessary to support the weight of the bottles and glasses.

Window & Thermoformed Tray

A large window on the front of both boxes showcased the bottle and accessories, which were securely nestled in a custom thermoformed tray.

Printing & Coating

Both cartons were printed using four-color process plus Campari’s signature PMS red and Aperol’s signature PMS orange. Given the visibility of the interiors through the large windows and clear thermoformed trays, both sides of the paperboard were printed for a seamless and cohesive look. The packages were coated with a dull varnish for a sophisticated matte look, and spot gloss was strategically applied to key design elements, adding contrast and visual interest.

Conclusion

By showcasing the bottles and accessories through a cohesive design, we enhanced Campari’s and Aperol’s retail presence and created memorable unboxing experiences for their customers. The thoughtful construction and high-quality printing and finishes ensured the packaging not only stood out on shelves but also reflected the elegance of each brand.

DURABILITY

Structure & Materials

The hitchhiker was engineered as a straight tuck carton with a fifth-panel hang tab designed to securely attach the box to the bottle’s neck. Constructed from 24pt SBS, the packaging offered the strength and durability required to support the weight of the cooler, ensuring the hitchhiker remained intact throughout shipping and handling.

Printing & Coating

For additional promotional purposes, the hitchhiker was printed using four-color process. An overall gloss coating was applied for a sleek, polished look, while a spot dull varnish provided subtle contrast, accentuating specific details in the design. This combination of finishes elevated the overall presentation, reinforcing Jim Beam’s premium image.

Conclusion

This smart packaging solution allowed Jim Beam to include a substantial promotional item without significantly increasing the footprint of their packaging. The compact design takes up roughly the same space as the bottle alone—both in transit and on the shelf—yet adds considerable value to their product and enhances the consumer experience.

By combining strategic design, durable construction, and expert printing, we helped Jim Beam captivate consumers and drive sales in a competitive market.
