Goose Island’s Bourbon County Stout Limited-Release Packaging
Overview
For the limited release of Goose Island’s Bourbon County Triple Barrel Stout, ADM partnered with Wynalda Packaging to produce a custom folding carton to showcase the specialty bottle. The packaging needed to create a distinctive presentation appropriate for a limited-edition product while securely holding the bottle in place.

INTEGRATED INNER STRUCTURE
Structural Design
Die-cut openings in the outer carton reveal a five-panel integrated inner structure, creating depth and dimension within a single package. This construction gives the carton a layered appearance without the need for two separate packaging components.
Integrated support panels at the top and bottom of the carton help secure the bottle in place, keeping it properly positioned within the package. The package is constructed from 24pt SBS C1S paperboard using a straight-tuck carton design.
Printing & Coating
The carton features two-sided printing, with PMS black and two custom PMS brown inks applied to the exterior. Cold foil is overprinted with a custom gold color to create metallic accents that complement the packaging’s rich, dark color palette.
The reverse side is printed with PMS black and finished with a dull varnish.
A combination of reticulating coating and dull varnish creates contrasting textures across the carton. Reticulating coating is applied to the inner layers, adding visual and tactile interest to the recessed areas, while dull varnish provides a subdued finish across the remaining surfaces.
Embossing & Finishing
Three different embossing and debossing techniques add dimension to the package. Domed embossing gives the circular badges a rounded, raised profile, while raised flat embossing creates distinct, elevated surfaces on the rectangular design elements.
A debossed woodgrain pattern extends across the entire exterior surface of the carton, introducing a tactile texture that complements the bourbon barrel-inspired design. Combined with the custom gold cold foil and contrasting coatings, these finishing techniques create depth and visual interest throughout the package.
