Frequently Asked Questions
FAQs
What is your MOQ (Minimum Order Quantity)?
Our typical minimum order quantities vary by packaging type. For folding cartons and rigid boxes, brands generally begin seeing strong value at volumes of approximately 5,000 units. For molded pulp packaging, due to the tooling investment required, brands typically see the best value starting around 50,000 units.
How much capacity does Wynalda have?
Wynalda operates a large-scale manufacturing facility with significant capacity across folding cartons, rigid boxes, and molded pulp packaging. Our operations are designed to support both emerging brands and large-scale national programs, with the ability to scale production as demand grows while maintaining consistent quality and lead times.
What are your typical lead-times?
At Wynalda Packaging, we have in‑house structural design, die‑making, and ink formulation departments, which allow us to offer very competitive turnaround times for our customers. We serve customers in fast-paced industries where speed to market is essential.
The following production lead-times are averages, not guarantees, as actual turn-times will vary by project depending on specific material availability, design requirements, tooling, etc.
- Folding Carton: 2-3 weeks
- Rigid Box: 2-6 weeks
- Molded Pulp: 2-3 weeks
- Molded Pulp tooling: 3-4 months
Do you actually manufacture in the USA?
Yes. We manufacture folding cartons, rigid boxes, and molded pulp trays at our production facility in Michigan. Nearly all aspects of production are handled in-house, including printing, embossing, foil stamping, die-cutting, die-making, gluing, chipboard skiving, rigid box assembly, and pulp molding. This integrated approach gives us greater control over quality, efficiency, and overall project execution.
Which print methods do you use?
Offset Lithographic Printing: Offset lithography is our primary printing method. We operate multiple advanced offset presses capable of up to 8-color printing with inline capabilities including multiple coatings, UV curing, and cold foil application. This process delivers high image quality, color accuracy, and consistency required for premium retail packaging.
Digital Offset Printing: Our Landa® S11 Digital Offset Press utilizes cutting-edge Nanographic Printing® technology to deliver offset-quality print and production speeds with the flexibility and variable data capabilities of digital print production. Learn more about Digital Offset Printing.
Do you provide samples and prototypes?
Yes. Our in-house structural design team can produce both printed and unprinted samples as well as prototypes of your packaging. These prototypes let you evaluate the structure, fit, and functionality of your design, while printed samples offer an accurate preview of how the final production packaging will look and feel. This process ensures your design performs as intended before full-scale manufacturing begins.
How do you ensure color consistency across runs and materials?
Wynalda is G7 certified, a color management methodology that ensures consistent, accurate, and repeatable color across different printing devices, technologies, and materials. G7 calibrates printing systems to a shared neutral gray balance, enabling predictable color reproduction regardless of press or substrate. By aligning our processes with this industry standard, we deliver reliable color consistency and maintain brand integrity across every production run.
Our in-house ink room formulates and adjusts custom inks to meet each customer’s exact specifications, brand guidelines, and industry standards. We maintain physical printed color standards and samples from previous runs, stored in a controlled environment to prevent changes over time. These standards are shared with customers for approval before production and serve as a reference to ensure consistent color across substrates and runs.
Can you help with EPR compliance and recyclability claims?
While the ultimate responsibility for regulatory compliance and on-package claims rests with the brand owner, Wynalda works closely with our customers to provide the documentation and design guidance necessary to support their sustainability goals. By collaborating early in the design process, we help ensure that packaging solutions not only meet functional and aesthetic needs but also support environmental and compliance objectives.
Do you do fulfillment?
Yes, Wynalda offers hand work, packout, and delivery services to provide end-to-end solutions for our customers. Our team can handle assembly, packaging, and shrink-wrapping all within our 400,000 sqft facility near Grand Rapids, MI. Our services are also highly scalable, enabling brands to seamlessly adjust for peak demand or promotional initiatives.
How are projects managed internally?
- Sales: Your sales representative serves as your primary point of contact throughout the project.
- Estimating: When an RFQ is received, the salesperson collaborates with our estimating department to prepare and present a quote.
- Design: If structural design is required, our packaging engineers develop the structure and provide physical prototypes for your review and approval.
- Project Coordinator: Once the quote is approved and a purchase order is received, the project is assigned to a dedicated project coordinator, who prepares the job for production, manages proofing and approvals, and coordinates with each production department.
- Production: Departments include prepress, sheeting, printing, die-cutting, stamping, gluing, rigid box assembly, and/or pulp molding.
- Quality Assurance: Our QA team conducts inspections and testing at every stage of the process to ensure the finished packaging meets both Wynalda’s quality standards and your brand’s specifications.

What are your QC processes?
Quality control starts with testing all raw materials used in your packaging. Paperboards, films, inks, adhesives, and other materials are evaluated to ensure they meet performance and printability requirements before any production begins. Tests may include surface tension and ink drawdown for proper ink adhesion, moisture analysis and crease tests for paperboard stability, gloss readings for finish levels, and viscosity testing to verify glue consistency.
During and after production, our quality assurance team performs inspections and performance tests to confirm both visual quality and structural integrity. These may include color accuracy checks using spectrophotometers and Delta E testing, rub and tape adhesion tests for print durability, and functional tests such as opening force, tuck lock force, and coefficient of friction. Detailed visual and dimensional inspections ensure proper registration, construction, and defect-free packaging. For molded pulp, evaluations include pulp consistency, moisture content, and structural inspections to verify dimensions and wall thickness.
Together, these measures ensure every package meets Wynalda’s high-quality standards and your brand’s specifications.
