What are Wynalda Litho’s environmentally friendly practices?

Scrap paper recycling – The scrap that is left over after projects have been trimmed and die-cut is collected and recycled, never sent to a landfill. Last year Wynalda Litho recycled an average of 450 tons of paper per month.
Aluminum, copper and brass recycling – In addition to paper we also recycle the aluminum printing plates our presses use and the copper and brass tooling our embossing dies use.
Solvent recycling – Our solvent recyclers distill the solvent used to clean our sheetfeed presses. The distilled ratio is 14:1 and greatly reduces the amount of solvent that needs to be properly disposed of by a regulated material storage firm.
Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (RTO) – In addition to recycling material things like paper, printing plates and solvents we are also recycling heat (actually hot oxidized vapors). Heatset web printing presses require heat to oxidize vapors generated in the printing process. The RTO system works by capturing the vapors generated during the printing process and reuses them as a fuel for the thermal oxidation process without using additional natural gas. It is like a perpetual motion machine that uses its own byproduct as energy to continue working rather than using natural gas to continue the cycle. Although difficult to describe, the 80% reduction in natural gas consumption is easy to understand.
Reusable towels – Rather than use disposable towels for cleaning ink and solvent we use an EPA regulated service that launders them, eliminating the chance of any ink or solvent ever entering a landfill or harming the environment.
Alcohol and volatile organic compound (VOC) reduction and elimination – We recycle, reuse and we also reduce and eliminate. We are proud of our effort to reduce and eliminate every VOC we can, we have been alcohol free on most of our presses for years and we use solvents and inks with the lowest VOC content available. Having a clean plant that doesn’t smell of chemicals is only a superficial benefit, ensuring the safety of our employees and the environment is the real advantage.
Nearly 100% of the printed materials manufactured by Wynalda Litho are from SFI certified suppliers who create paper from healthy managed forests.
